State Summer Games

Emory University, Atlanta  

June 2-4, 2006

 

Presenting Sponsor:

More than 1,500 Special Olympics athletes from around the state will descend on Emory University to compete in Aquatics, Athletics, Soccer, Badminton, Volleyball, Tennis, Gymnastics, Table Tennis and Badminton.

 

Opening Ceremony

Join us at 8 p.m. Friday, June 2  for the Opening Ceremony at McDonough Field at Emory University, as we kick off the celebration in style. There will be a fire eaters, Polynesian dancers and a parade.

 

Free Family Fun

All the games events are free to the public, so bring the whole family and "Come Be Inspired." Competitions will be Saturday and Sunday. Medals will be awarded throughout the weekend. On Saturday, Olympic Town at McDonough Field will offer crafts, a moon walk, a slide and more family fun. Competition will continue all day Saturday and Sunday morning.

11 a.m.-5 p.m. Agency Check-in, Woodruff PE Center

12 p.m.-5 p.m. Athletics Divisioning

  4 p.m.-6 p.m. Family check-in, Emory Conference Center

   5 p.m.-7 p.m. Dinner (athletes/coaches), Dobbs University Ctr.

7:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Parade Line Up (Flag bearers),  McDonough Field

8 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Opening Ceremony, McDonough Field

9:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Late registration at the Nerve Center

 

Saturday

6:15 a.m.-8:30 a.m. Breakfast (athletes/coaches) Dobbs University Ctr.

7:15 a.m.-5 p.m. Competition

8 a.m.-4 p.m. Family Hospitality Tent

9 a.m.-5 p.m. Olympic Town, McDonough Field

9 a.m.-5 p.m. Opening Eyes & Special Smiles, PE Center

11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Lunch (athletes/coaches) Dobbs University Ctr.

4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Dinner (athletes/coaches) Dobbs University Ctr.

7 p.m.-9 p.m. Athlete dance, P.E. Center Gymnasium

 

Sunday

6:15 a.m.-8:30 a.m. Breakfast (athletes/coaches) Dobbs University Ctr.

7:15 a.m.-12 p.m. Competition

8 a.m.-12 p.m. Family Hospitality Tent

8 a.m.-12 p.m. Check-out (Woodruff Gym) Turn in keys.


Volunteer for the Summer Games

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer. We'd love for you to volunteer by being a fan in the stands. Bring supportive posters and signs and follow the "Fans in the Stands" signs to Volunteer Registration, Dobbs University Center (DUC), to register anytime over the weekend. Thank you Summer Games volunteers. We simply could not do it without you!

Directions to Emory University

 From North(e.g. north side of 285):

Take I-85 South to Exit 89 (North Druid Hills Rd.)

Make a left onto North Druid Hills Rd.

Go three lights (~ 1/2 mile) to Briarcliff

Turn right onto Briarcliff

Go four  lights (~1 3/4 mile) to Clifton Road

Make a left onto Clifton Road (Dusty’s BBQ on corner)

Go about 1 1/4 miles to Asbury Circle (first light after the short bridge)

Make a right onto Asbury Circle

Go to second stop sign and turn right onto Fraternity Row

Go ~ 1/4 mile and the Peavine Parking Decks will be on the right, after the curve (free parking available)

Follow signs to the VIP Reception in Cox Hall (Clock Tower Bldg.)

From South (e.g., 75/85 connector):

Take I-85 North to Exit 89 (North Druid Hills Rd.)

Make a right onto North Druid Hills Road

Go two lights (~ 1/2 mile) to Briarcliff

Make a right onto Briarcliff

Go four  lights (~1 3/4 mile) to Clifton Road
