Volunteer of the Month -
Andrew Lytle

When Andrew met athlete Sara Maddox, he
was inspired to volunteer with Special Olympics Georgia. This photo was taken
six years after the two met and they are still best buds.
What makes an outstanding Special Olympics Georgia volunteer?
Longevity, willingness, leadership and time. Passion, a connection with athletes
to athletes and most of all purpose. Andrew Lytle is only sixteen years old but
already has discovered a purpose in helping people with special needs. Special
Olympics Georgia congratulates Andrew as the January 2007 Volunteer of the
Month!
Longevity? Andrew has volunteered with us for six years. Willingness? As a
volunteer, Andrew works with athletes in various sports at State Indoor Winter
Games, State Summer Games, State Fall Games and the State Horse Show. In
addition to the state games, Andrew volunteers for many local events in Henry
and Rockdale counties and even sits on the Rockdale County Management Team. He
constantly demonstrates his leadership and willingness to give up so much of his
time to help Special Olympics Georgia's mission in training children and adults
with intellectual disabilities.
But that is not all. Andrew has created a program called “Andrews Awareness”.
This program promotes youth to volunteer with individuals with disabilities and
to volunteer with Special Olympics. When you ask about connectivity, Andrew has
taken his own life experiences and utilized them to relate to Special Olympics
athletes. For him, volunteering is not ‘work’. It is his passion. Congrats
Andrew! Thanks for making your passion such a remarkable purpose.
