Publix, Procter & Gamble
and SOGA

Publix, Procter & Gamble, and Special Olympics
have partnered together for 29 years to help people with intellectual
disabilities achieve their dreams. Here’s how you can help…
• Support Special Olympics while you shop at Publix by purchasing your favorite
P&G products like Tide, Pampers, Bounty and many other well-known brands during
the month of January.
• And while you’re at Publix between January 1-22, 2009, show you’re a fan of
Special Olympics by purchasing your very own paper torch at the check-out
register for $1, $3, or $5 to support Special Olympics and your local athletes!
NEW for 2009: this year’s torches include $6 in coupons on select Procter and
Gamble products. These coupons are good above and beyond the brandSAVER™
coupons, so purchase a torch and you’ll find out just how rewarding it is to “Be
a fan”!
Jan. 14: Chili’s Day of Giving
Giving back never tasted so good!
Wednesday, Jan. 14 come to any metro Atlanta Chili’s and tell them you are with
Special Olympics Georgia and 10 percent of lunch or dinner will be donated
to SOGA. It's simple, yummy and you can help the athletes of Special Olympics. Click here
for the flyer should bring.
Law Enforcement Torch Run Kickoffs
Attention law enforcement officers and friends: You can learn more about the Law
Enforcement Torch Run (LETR). Attend one of the annual LETR Kick-off luncheons
for free and learn more about the Torch Run and how you can be a hero for
Special Olympics. Kick-offs will be held across the state in Valdosta, Warner
Robins, Sandy Springs, Dalton, Augusta, and Lawrenceville. During the kick-offs,
officers will learn how to get started and receive all necessary materials to
begin fundraising. It's more than just a run! For a list of locations and more
information, please

Kaczenski.
Sponsor of the month

With an exceptional level of support from many
local communities in 2008, we anticipate a similar trend of giving this year. We
are proud to announce Solvay Pharmaceuticals as our awards sponsor for
State Indoor Winter Games. Solvay is an international chemical and
pharmaceutical group headquartered in Brussels. It employs more than
28,000 people in 50 countries.
The generosity and designation of Solvay’s outreach
areas of support collates with Special Olympics ambitions of care for
individuals with intellectual disabilities. As our sponsor of the month, we
would like to thank Solvay Pharmaceuticals for continually caring and giving.
Their giving affords athletes the opportunity to participate in our upcoming
Indoor Winter Games. Additionally, with their help we expect to have more than
our proposed amount of athletes, coaches, volunteers, and unified partners for
the event. Thank you Solvay Pharmaceuticals for giving our athletes an
opportunity of a lifetime.

Volunteer of the Month -
Dutch Walters
Not a lot of talented professional artists will donate huge amounts of time and
talented services to a nonprofit organization. And when Dutch Walters came
specifically to Special Olympics Georgia, offering to lend his photography
talent and time, the organization still had no idea the gem of a gift that was
in store for it.
He's been to so many of SOGA's events that parents and athletes recognize him by
name. You would have seen him at events including the World's Largest Truck
Convoy, The Bob Busse Golf Tournament and banquet, State Summer Games at Emory
and even State Fall Games in October in Statesboro. This year, he's introduced
photographer Annie Teefy to SOGA events.
Dutch spends hours and hours getting heart-felt, compelling, sports and events
photos that he lets SOGA use and provides access to the photos to the
public on his Web site. Check
out some of Dutch's photos here. He pours over the thousands of photos at
events and sends SOGA his best. His photos are used in all of SOGA's
publications and the Web site and even in a wonderful slideshow he prepared of
Summer Games for the Distinguished Service Awards Banquet last July.
Thanks Dutch and also Annie for your hard work and dedication to SOGA. We're
looking to see you both at Indoor Winter State Games in Marietta Jan. 16-18.
Congratulations to you for being the January Volunteer of the Month.
