VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH |
|
 | |
|
 |
|
Volunteer of the Month -
Lt. Bo Eskew
Lt. Bo Eskew serves at the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) contact for the
Sandy Springs Police Department (SSPD) for the past 2 years, and before then he
was involved through MARTA PD for several years. He also serves on the Executive
Council for the LETR. SSPD is a highly active department in efforts through the
Torch Run. In their first year they ranked #5 in the state and in 2008, they
ranked #6 in the state overall, which is truly quite impressive for a brand new
agency.
Not only is Bo involved with the Torch Run, he is active in Special Olympics
Georgia activities. For this year’s Art Auction, held in Sandy Springs, Bo
helped to secure several off duty police officers to assist with the parking for
the event, and he has also helped us secure all necessary permits through the
City of Sandy Springs for the event – (not an easy task). Also, with his help,
SSPD has “adopted” Global Messenger Wesley Mosely as their “poster” child for
the department. Whenever Wesley comes to any SSPD event, the officers in the
department know who he is and automatically interact with him. To see an entire
agency know about the Torch Run and Special Olympics, and participate highly in
their activities is rare and is only due to the hard work of dedicated
volunteers and leaders like Lt. Eskew.
Through his years at SSPD has often been reassigned to new shifts, duties,
responsibilities. While Bo has had to readjust, he always remains loyal to
Special Olympics. He remains active and highly involved in the Torch Run and
Executive Council. He is working hard on brining up new leaders within his
department to make sure that SOGA & the LETR remain high priorities for the
department. SSPD recently named a new Chief of Police and Bo made it a priority
to make sure that Chief Sult knew quickly how active the SSPD was with the Torch
Run and that this was an activity in which they wished to continue. Chief Sult
is 100% behind us and the efforts of his department with SOGA!
Bo is someone that SOGA can come to depend on. He is always quick to respond to
emails or any requests for help and uses his own personal time to go above and
beyond what many other Executive Council members do. Bo took his personal time
to travel to Valdosta & Warner Robins for the LETR Kickoff luncheons. He also
hosted one of our six kickoffs in Sandy Springs – thus securing the venue, food,
and helping to recruit agencies to attend. He’s also gotten several new agencies
to sign up to participate in the Torch Run this year as well.
Because of his commitment and his dependability, SOGA is proud to honor Lt. Bo
Eskew as the volunteer of the month. Congratulations to you on being the March
Volunteer of the Month.
