Sponsor of the month

For more than 20 years Siemens has supported Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA) by giving of their time and talents, providing critical funds needed to support our athletes. In recent years, SOGA has also been one of the charitable beneficiaries of the Siemens Caring Hands Golf Tournament, where Siemens employees throughout the United States convene in Georgia to raise funds that support their employees volunteer involvement. Additionally, for the past several years Siemens employees have been the Awards sponsors and staffed the awards presentations at our State Summer Games.

By being a part of such an exciting time at each of our competition venues, Siemens employees are a constant source of encouragement and support, cheering our athletes on as they go for the gold!
Siemens Caring Hands, an organization designed to provide employees with the chance to volunteer their time and energy to local projects while giving back to the communities where they live and work has become an integral component of their national focus on Corporate Responsibility. Siemens Caring Hands is the company-wide effort that links employees across the country, believing that one inspired person can make a difference, but together we can change the world.

Our hats are off to the thousands of hours Siemens volunteers have given to support our athletes for the past twenty years. As we look forward to the next 20 years, we hope that you will in turn support Siemens by visiting them at www.usasiemens.com to learn more about their wide array of products, systems and services and discover why they are global leaders in industry, energy and healthcare.

   VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

Volunteers of the Month -  Steve, Carolyne and Andrea Walker

This month, Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA) honors a family of  volunteers - Steve, Carolyne and Andrea Walker. All three Walkers traveled from their home in Marietta to Albany for State Fall Games after daughter Andrea said she wanted to get involved with SOGA. Their first assignment was at the games' big venue, bocce. They had a great time that they stayed to volunteer all day Friday, all day Saturday into the evening and the entire shift on Sunday.

Since Fall Games, Steve, Carolyne and Andrea have been active in almost all of SOGA's events. All three once again volunteered for the State Indoor Winter Games in January. Not only did they volunteer at their assignments but they stepped in to help at one of our bowling venues when they saw that things were getting a bit hectic. They rallied the volunteers and made the necessary calls to have the venue running accordingly and smoothly. They have also been active and energetic members of the 2008 Duck Derby Committee. Steve sold many ducks at  various businesses and festivals.  At the Duck Derby, Andrea helped support the staff and sold even more ducks.

All three were  volunteer coordinators for different venues at State Summer Games last weekend. Andrea took on the role as the volunteer coordinator for aquatics, one of the largest and longest events. Andrea was out there for three days organizing and coordinating the volunteers. Steve and Carolyne took on the role of volunteer coordinator for two different venues - Olympic Town on Saturday and Table Tennis on Sunday. Olympic Town was a huge success this year and staff and volunteers commented on the amazing job that both Steve and Carolyne did in organizing the venue..

The Walkers have truly shown us what it means to go above and beyond. Each Walker has proven many times that they are truly exceptional people and are dedicated and reliable. Already, they have already said they will be in Savannah in July for the State Master's Bowling Tournament!

Congratulations Steve, Carolyne and Andrea for being the June Volunteers of the Month
