Sponsor of the month
As we enter July, the buzz and excitement
surrounding the
2009
Master’s Bowling Tournament continues to grow. For the third consecutive
year, the competition will be held in Savannah, Georgia. On July 18 and 19, over
850 adult Special Olympics bowlers will gather together to compete in
traditional and unified bowling during this weekend of fun and sport.
Additionally, there will be 300 coaches, 450 volunteers and at least 200 family
members participating. Special Olympics Georgia does not receive state funding,
nor are we a United Way agency. It takes compassionate businesses to help us
continue to provide top quality free programs for our athletes in Savannah
and around the state.
We would like to thank our generous sponsors of the 2009 Master’s Bowling
Tournament. They are: Carroll & Carroll Inc., The Savannah Sports Council,
The Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Comcast, The Lady & Sons, SCANA Energy, The
Civitan Club of Savannah, The Joseph Charitable Trust and The Junior League of
Savannah. Their support allows us to offer this opportunity to as many
athletes as possible, and we are grateful for their financial commitment. The
impact of their support on the athletes is immeasurable. We
certainly could not do it without them and greatly appreciate all that they do
for Special Olympics Georgia. Thank you.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH |
|
 | |
|
 |
|
Volunteer of the Month -John Clouse
John Clouse has been a part of the Special Olympics Georgia family for over 15
years. Most people involved with SOGA may not be familiar with the name but they
probably know his face. For the past few years, John has been out ice and water
man at the
State
Summer Games. He works all weekend - from early morning to night - bringing
ice and water to each of our venues and making sure all of our coolers stay
full. Anyone who has been to the Summer Games at Emory knows just how hot it
gets out there! Being a part of the ice and water team - just two people - means
that John stays busy all weekend moving from one venue to another, and with over
2,000 athletes and just as many coaches, volunteers, parents, etc, water and ice
needs to be refreshed constantly.
John is also willing to help out wherever help is needed. It is not unusual for
John to stop by the SOGA state office around games time to offer is help with
loading or doing whatever he can. He is also out there for other games ready to
offer his service. Many times, he is right alongside the SOGA staff or Games GMT
helping out the entire weekend.
Because of his years of dedication and hard work, SOGA is proud to honor John as
the volunteer of the month. Congratulations to you on being the July Volunteer
of the Month.
