Sponsor of the month
Like a Good Neighbor,
State Farm Insurance and Clifford Wilcox
has been there for the Special Olympics Young Leaders’ annual fundraiser
Boccefest. Since 2004 Cliff Wilcox, owner of a new State Farm location in
Roswell, has participated with the young professional group of Special
Olympics Georgia. Through Cliff, State Farm is a recurrent court sponsor for the
event. State Farm was founded in 1922 as an automobile insurance company owned
by its policy holders. Despite the company's name, State Farm did not initially
begin as a crop insurance company. Specifically, State Farm specialized in auto
insurance for farmers. Since its inception, State Farm has expanded its
insurance and financial services to other popular types such as homeowners,
commercial, and life insurance, in addition to automobile.
Special Olympics Young Leaders group is grateful for Cliff Wilcox and State
Farm’s continued support and look forward to a future partnership for Boccefest.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH |

Volunteers of the Month -
Rex and
Sharon Cress
Both Rex and Sharon Cress have been dedicated members of the State Master's
Bowling Tournament's Games Management Team (GMT) for the past two years in
Savannah. Rex immediately became a member of the GMT as the volunteer director
for the tournament. Rex helped secure more than 500 volunteers needed for
the weekend of the games. He spoke to local businesses and churches, put up
posters, passed out applications and solicited his neighbors. Since there are no
SOGA staff members located in Savannah soliciting volunteers would have been
challenging. Rex and Sharon's enthusiasm for SOGA brought in the majority of our
volunteers both years.
Rex and Sharon also helped manage and organize the volunteers the weekend of the
tournament. The competition was held in two different bowling venues, so Rex and
Sharon split up to make sure each bowling venue's volunteers knew what to do and
that the games ran efficiently. Both were out there all day Saturday and Sunday
for the competition, with each venue sometimes holding 100 volunteers.
With Rex and Sharon's dedication and support, SOGA was able to work through
everything and the tournament ran on time and smoothly.
Thanks Rex and Sharon for all of your hard work and dedication to Special
Olympics Georgia and the State Master's Bowling Tournament. We look forward to
next year.
Congratulations to you both on being the August Volunteers of the Month.
