Volunteer of the Month -
Susan
Jackson
Susan Jackson works as a school nurse for the Coweta County School System and
has been actively involved with the Coweta County Special Olympics for many
years.
Coweta County provides three free health fairs, in which athletes can receive
up-to-date screenings for their medicals, a requirement to compete in Special
Olympics, each school year. For the last five years Susan has spearheaded the
Coweta health fairs. Before the event, she recruits local doctors, nurses and
volunteers. At each event, she sets the stations up and coordinates the efforts
for all the athletes and volunteers. Each athlete goes through the stations for
vital signs and weight measurement before seeing the doctor. With so many
athletes needing to be screened, the process can be confusing and chaotic but with Susan's dedication, the fairs run smoothly and quickly for
everyone involved.
Susan also volunteers for the Coweta County Spring Games. Not only does she
recruit the nurses to fill the first aid tents at both the track and field venue
and the Olympic Village but she also volunteers.
Susan dedicates her time to make sure that every athlete has an opportunity to
see a doctor. She is a vital part of the Coweta County Special
Olympics volunteer force and without her hard work and time, the program could
not be the success it is today.
Special Olympics Georgia congratulates Susan on being the December Volunteer of
the Month.

Want to get involved in event planning? Want to use your professional skills
for a good cause?
We're recruiting committee members for the 2008 Duck Derby and the 2008
Art Auction. We are looking for individuals who will be dedicated to the event
team and who have the time to meet for at least two hours once a month. Being a

The Art Auction will be held March 29 at a beautiful multi-million dollar home.
Event attendees will have the opportunity to tour the home, bid on
art, eat, drink and socialize all to raise money for the athletes of Special
Olympics Georgia.
