Know folks who should be family of the month

SOGA will soon recognize one family every month on our Web site. If there is a family you would like to recognize, please tell us about them. E-mail your submissions to Robert.Yost@SpecialOlympicsGA.org

Sponsor of the month

Presenting Sponsor of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Publix Super Markets, Inc. has helped to raise over $10 million since 1995 for Southeastern Special Olympics programs through icon sales. In Georgia alone $1,904,746 has been raised through our partnership.

   VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

Volunteer of the Month -  Lisa and Billy Hughey

Lisa and Billy Hughey have been dedicated members of the Special Olympics Georgia family for the last seven years. Both are local coaches for Dalton City and both serve as members of the State Horse Show Games Management Team, which helps to plan, organize and implement the Games. Both are also a big part of the Special Olympics team during the weekend of the Games. This year, Billy was excellent as part of the rules enforcement team and Lisa, who is certified in equestrian, was also at the show and helped out wherever needed the entire weekend.

Lisa and Billy are also good role models for their children, instilling in them the values necessary to contribute to their community. Their son, Tyler Hughey is a SOGA athlete and won the 2008 Boy Scouts of America Peach of an Athlete award, and their daughter, Raven Hughey, an outstanding SOGA volunteer, won the 2008 SOGA Youth Volunteer of the Year award.

Thanks Lisa and Billy for your hard work and dedication to Special Olympics Georgia.

Congratulations to you both on being the December Volunteers of the Month.

How can I help?

Publix, Procter & Gamble and SOGA

Publix, Procter & Gamble, and Special Olympics have partnered together for 29 years to help people with intellectual disabilities achieve their dreams. Here’s how you can help…

• On Dec. 28, 2008, clip the P&G brandSAVER™ coupons featuring Special Olympics in your local newspaper.
• Support Special Olympics while you shop at Publix by purchasing your favorite P&G products like Tide, Pampers, Bounty and many other well-known brands during the month of January.
• And while you’re at Publix between January 1-22, 2009, show you’re a fan of Special Olympics by purchasing your very own paper torch at the check-out register for $1, $3, or $5 to support Special Olympics and your local athletes!

NEW for 2009: this year’s torches include $6 in coupons on select Procter and Gamble products. These coupons are good above and beyond the brandSAVER™ coupons, so purchase a torch and you’ll find out just how rewarding it is to “Be a fan”!
