The Duck Derby is Coming to Atlanta!

The concept is simple. 20,000 rubber ducks are adopted by individuals, dumped into the lake at Atlantic Station, and then raced for prizes - and even a chance to win

$1 Million!

You can adopt your very own Derby Duck for just $5 each, or get a "Quack Pack" complete with your own souvenir junior duck, and vouchers from some of our sponsors. Funds raised from the duck adoptions will benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia.

Volunteer of the Month

Dr. Marco Belizaire

Dr. Marco Belizaire has made a tremendous impact on athlete growth over the past several months as he serves as one of our “volunteer health care professionals” for Medfest. Although Dr. Belizaire’s time with SOGA has been a short six months, it does not reflect or begin to equal the amazing work he has given to many new athletes within the Metro area school systems. Medfest is a program that facilitates a standard sports physical assessment for registration of current of prospective Special Olympic Georgia athletes and Dr. Marco has generously given his expertise and time to this program. His enthusiasm and love for the athletes is easily seen as he conducts the screenings and the response of the athletes is quite a touching experience.

Dr. Beliziare stands out not only because he devotes his time to this cause, but that he takes time to do this while running his own practice, Agape Chiropractic, in Cobb County. In addition, Dr. Marco facilitates a free chiropractic clinic in his home country of Panama every month. His life is busy and filled with lots of chances to turn away SOGA’s requests for volunteer time, but he has never turned down the chance to conduct athlete screenings.

It is clear and evident that Dr. Marco has a true-belief system in volunteerism and adding to the greater community and Special Olympics Georgia is honored to have his commitment; and our athletes receive first-class attention by a dedicated professional. Without doubt, both Dr. Marco agrees with SOGA that those athletes deserve nothing less!

Change for Champions

March 6-10, 2006

A few cents will make a difference in the lives of the more than 22,000 athletes of Special Olympics Georgia.  Bring your pocket change to designated locations (schools, stores, etc;) to support your local Special Olympics program.

The funds raised through special events like Change for Champions allow athletes to train and compete.  Make an event out of it – School classes or community groups can compete to see who can bring in the most change!
