Try a scoop of Special Olympics Georgia ice cream

What could be better on a hot summer day than some cold ice cream?! Stop by Jake’s Ice Cream on the Decatur Square and grab a scoop of the Official Special Olympics Georgia ice cream – Summer Camp Lunch (created by 4th Grade Teacher and SOGA Volunteer, Heather Nelson of Lilburn Georgia). It is vanilla ice cream with a creamy peanut butter swirl, a ribbon of jelly, and bits of graham crackers. Proceeds from the sale of Summer Camp Lunch will benefit SOGA and will be used to fund our Summer Sports Camp. You can stop by Jake’s all summer long and enjoy this great flavor of ice cream and support Special Olympics Georgia at the same time! Check our calendar for upcoming events with Jake’s Ice Cream during the whole year.

Volunteer of the Month - Suzy Lee

Suzy Lee, Area 13 fundraiser coordinator, has dedicated the last three years to raising money for the area's athletes. She created the Annual Golf Tournament, found corporate sponsors, and has organized many other fundraisers. Each year, her colleagues watch as she puts the rest of her life on hold for Special Olympics. She doesn't stop at just fundraising, she is also present at every meeting and event with a smile.

At the April 28 tournament, she planned the event, worked with the golf course on logistics, solicited local businesses for sponsorships, recruited golfers, and hosted the event. She even got local media to cover the event! And at every event, Suzy puts forth 110 percent for the athletes.

Special Olympics Georgia serves nearly 23,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities. And Suzy does everything she can to make sure the athletes in Area 13 have the best. Congratulations Suzy!
