Volunteer of the Month -
Sarah Carte
Special Olympics Georgia recognizes Mrs. Sarah Carte of Albany as the December
2006 Volunteer of the Month. Sarah has taken the activities created for the
families of Special Olympics Georgia (athletes, parents and care-givers) and
made them her pet project. Two years ago, when the State Fall Games were first
hosted by Albany, Sarah had to start from ground zero to raise awareness and
funds for the families. She now has the support of vendors and volunteers; she’s
even begun planning for October 2007! The Family Action Network (FAN) is
extremely honored to have Sarah coordinating their efforts in South Georgia.
What exactly does Sarah Carte do at the State Fall Games each year? She
organizes and recruits volunteers to sell souvenirs and staff resource tables at
four different venues. She ensures tables, chairs, tents and souvenirs are
set-up and taken down at each of those venues. She spends a great deal of time
organizing and setting-up the family social, held during the athletes’ Victory
Dance, for parents and family members of the athletes. Sarah utilizes her
passion for Special Olympics and persuasion to have food and supplies donated
for the social. She’s even recruited a pharmacy in Albany to make goody bags! On
top of that, Sarah attends all of the planning meetings held for the State Fall
Games. Instead of asking what Sarah does for the State Fall Games, one may ask
what she doesn’t do!
Thank you Sarah for the time and effort you have poured into Special Olympics
Georgia. We look forward to another great year in Albany and to working with you
for a LONG time to come. Congratulations!
