"Every Family is called upon to make sacrifices
in the name of love, but families of Special Olympics athletes have done
much, much more. Each day, they demand civil rights for their children
that others take for granted: in education, employment and health.
Families, we salute and commend you."
- Eunice Kennedy Shriver,
Founder of Special Olympics
Family
Mission
To provide
year-round activities for all families of Special Olympics athletes.
These activities give families the opportunity to share experiences and
knowledge, and to form friendships with other Special Olympics families.
Family Goal
To create, promote, and
support Special Olympics families by establishing a state-wide family
network that will provide training, education, and outreach.
Family Camp
Special Olympics Georgia
and the Family Action Network (F.A.N.) offers a family camp in the
Spring. This is a fun vacation for athletes, their parents, and siblings
that gives everyone a chance to make new friends and share the joy --
the theme for this year's camp. The weekend is filled with activities
from sports, to arts & crafts, to boating/fishing, educational sessions
and times to share stories and songs around the campfire. Campers stay
in cottages and eat together in the large dining hall. Activities are
planned to bring everyone together as well as separate into smaller
groups to have the chance to get to know others and share life
experiences. This is the only Special Olympics activity that focuses
exclusively on the family as a unique social unit. |
