Marlow’s Tavern Tees Up for 15th Annual Golf Classic on September 23  Atlanta-Area Restaurants and Management Group Raise Funds  with Fine Cuisine and Friendly Competition on the Course

ATLANTA (August  2013) – Marlow’s Tavern, Sterling Spoon Culinary Management and Aqua blue Restaurant & Bar are hosting their 15th Annual Marlow’s Tavern Golf Classic, featuring exciting golf competition, contests on the course, fun prizes and gourmet tavern fare. Golfers will putt for a good cause on Monday, September 23, as the event benefits Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA).

“Our 16-year relationship with SOGA means a great deal to our company and teams,” says John C. Metz, co-founder of Aqua blue and executive chef and co-founder of Marlow’s Tavern and Sterling Spoon Culinary Management. “It has taught us all how truly important and impactful becoming part of the local communities we serve can be to so many. I have many fond memories from partnering with such a generous organization that enriches the athletes, our city and our employees.”

This year’s event chair is Ben Shanley, vice president of National Distribution Organization for Coca-Cola Refreshments. Shanley has been involved as a participant and corporate sponsor since the tournament’s inception.

“My wife JoAnn and I have always enjoyed volunteering for Special Olympics events,” said Shanley. “It’s our way to give back to these special athletes, their families and the community.”

Shanley is committed to recruiting new sponsors in order to help raise money for SOGA and developing the focus and goals for the event and fundraising initiatives.

The Marlow’s Tavern Golf Classic has helped raise more than $425,000 for SOGA since 1999.

“Marlow’s Tavern’s continued commitment to supporting the Special Olympics movement helps provide hope, opportunity, success and acceptance to children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout Georgia,” says Susan Skolnick, director of development and major gifts for SOGA.

The Golf Classic will take place at the Country Club of Roswell, followed by an after party with an awards dinner an incredible silent auction at Aqua blue.
