October Volunteer of the Month: Dr.
Jonathan Dubin

Because of his generosity to the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia, Dr. Dubin has been selected as the October volunteer of the month, an honor that is long overdue! Thank you Dr. Dubin for everything that you do for Special Olympics Georgia and the athletes.

Dr. Jonathan Dubin has led the Special Olympics Special
Smiles Oral Health Screening for more than nine years. Putting together such a huge program is not easy but Dr. Dubin does it twice a year, recruiting all the dentists and dental students to help screen our athletes, and donating much of his time and supplies. Since he has become Clinical Director, more than 4,000 athletes have been through the Special Smiles screening. Dr. Dubin also offers support for the annual Duck Derby, encouraging his patients to adopt a duck and one day each year he buys each of his patients a duck. Outside of Special Olympics, Dr. Dubin also
co-chairs the Georgia Mission of Mercy Project held in Cobb County, where dentists have treated over 2,000 for free.

One of the most popular Healthy Athlete screenings is Special Smiles, which offers dental screenings, where athletes receive a report card addressing their dental needs and free mouth guards, sealants, fluoride treatments, and a goodie bag with all sorts of dental products. Do you know about the Special
Olympics Georgia Healthy Athletes Program? Chances are if you have or know of an athlete who  participates in the program, you do. Healthy Athletes offers free health screenings to athletes at our state games, including Special Smiles, Healthy Hearing and Health Promotion, Opening Eyes, Fit Feet and Fun Fitness. The Healthy Athletes initiative provides health services and education to Special Olympics athletes and changes the way health systems interact with people with intellectual disabilities.
