FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON SPECIAL OLYMPICS GEORGIA 1ST ANNUAL POLAR PLUNGE  FEB. 20TH AT LAKE LANIER ISLANDS BEACH & WATERPARK

ATLANTA, GA (January 2010) – The newest winter weather event to hit the Metro Atlanta area promises to bring plenty of chills and thrills on February 20th at Lake Lanier Islands Beach & Water Park in Buford.  Hundreds are preparing for the coolest event in the state where they will face the icy waters as they plunge in! All proceeds benefit the 22,769 athletes of Special Olympics Georgia.

Plungers are expected to brave the chilly weather and water all while wearing nothing but swimsuits and zany costumes!  Too chicken to plunge?  That’s ok – join us in the Chicken plunge as we celebrate all the chickens on land!  The Polar Plunge is scheduled for 1:00 pm, with gates opening at 11:00 am.  Other highlights include food, music, Special Olympic athletes on hand, plunger costume contests and more!

All you have to do is raise a “bear” minimum of $50 in pledges (or as a personal donation) in order to be a part of the fun.  For that contribution, all participants receive a commemorative Plunge Long Sleeve T-Shirt and hand knitted scarf!  Additional event incentives are available for those raising $150 and above.

This year’s Polar Plunge is presented by Lake Lanier Islands Beach & Water Park and Star94 FM,
and is supported by Courier Express, Marietta Wrecker, SilvAd Promotions, Publix Super Markets, and Genuine Auto Parts.
