Introduction to the World of Sports
Young Athletes is an innovative sports play program for children age 2-7 designed to introduce them and their families to the world of sports before their eligibility for Special Olympics at age 8.  It is a versatile, inclusive program used in pre-schools, homes, play groups, and day care centers and is appropriate for children with intellectual disabilities and without.  It engages children in developmentally appropriate play activities designed to foster physical, cognitive and social development.

Contact a Program Manager about a presentation about Young Athletes for your school or children’s group. The Young Athletes program helps raise awareness about the abilities of children with intellectual disabilities through peer participation, demonstrations held at State Games, and other events.

Check out the Young Athletes Activity Guide for more information.
