“Be a Fan. Bring out the Champion in Everyone.”
Special Olympics Georgia State Summer Games
May 18 – 20
Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA) will host its annual State Summer Games for almost 3,000 athletes, coaches, and unified partners on May 17 – 19 at Emory University.
Athletes will compete in athletics, flag football, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, table tennis, tennis, and volleyball, with medals awarded throughout the weekend.
“We are looking forward to our 31st State Summer Games held at the beautiful Emory University campus. It is so joyful as the vans, buses and cars roll in for the weekend filled with well-trained athletes ready for their weekend to compete and shine. I invite you and your family and friends to come out to the Games and be a Fan in the Stands,” said SOGA CEO Georgia Milton-Sheats.
Leading up to games, law enforcement officers from agencies all over Georgia have teamed up with SOGA in a 1,000-mile torch relay across the state leading up to the State Summer Games. The “Flame of Hope” will light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony to signify the opening of the games.
The games are free and open to the public. Parking is free at Peavine Parking deck.
Publix-LETR Special Olympics Torch Icon Sale – January 2-23
by David CrawfordAt the beginning of each year, from January 2 – January 23, millions of paper torch icons are distributed to Publix Supermarkets and sold for a $1, $3 or $5 donation at the register, with the proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA). In 2015, SOGA received approximately $614,000 from this three-week promotion! Designed to raise awareness of SOGA, this promotion is in collaboration with Publix sponsorship of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR).
Publix’s support of this program is particularly unique because many of SOGA’s athletes are employed at various Publix locations throughout the state. The LETR involves more than 1,000 law enforcement officers from over 100 agencies who take part in various runs spanning two weeks in May in which they pass the Special Olympics Georgia “Flame of Hope” across the State. All of the relays converge at Emory University (Atlanta) during the State Summer Games Opening Ceremony. The LETR is the largest annual fundraising event benefiting Special Olympics Georgia with Publix being the longest and largest single donor to the program.
So come and support your Special Olympics Georgia athletes by purchasing your “Torch’ icons at all Publix store January 2 – 23, 2016. Thank you Georgia for your support!
